New Terminal 3

New Terminal 3

T3-Aussen

On December 30, 2005, the current U.S. air base land in the south of Frankfurt Airport was reverted to the ownership of Fraport AG. We are planning to build a new passenger terminal on this site, which will increase the airport's current capacity of about 56 million passengers per year by approx. 25 million. Some 75 aircraft positions and additional taxiways will be built to support operations of the new terminal.

In total, some 305 hectares (754 acres) of land will be needed for the new Terminal 3, the associated aircraft positions and taxiways, as well as the new freight facilities, maintenance buildings and other operationally required facilities such as car parks. Some 188 hectares (464 acres) of this space can be provided within the existing airport boundary fence; a further 108 hectares (267 acres) of land outside the fence must also be used.

New Terminal 3

Legend

Fraport AG's multi-phase architectural competition for the planned Terminal 3 at the southern side of Frankfurt Airport (FRA) has been completed.

T3-Footprint

The experts selected the concept of Prof. Christoph Mäckler from Frankfurt. The decision for the winning project was based on the following key criteria. The concept was convincing because of its functionality, which very much meets all operational requirements.  Furthermore, the extremely flexible concept allows for demand-driven modular development of the various construction phases until 2015. Also, Mäckler's proposal stayed exactly within the prescribed budget for the Terminal 3 project.
