What we do for noise abatement in the region

We take a two-tier approach to minimizing aircraft noise in the neighborhood of our airport: Through "active noise abatement" Frankfurt Airport contributes to the operation of the quietest possible aircraft. This is supplemented by "passive noise abatement" at buildings in residential areas that are particularly hard hit by aircraft noise.

Newer aircraft make less noise because they are equipped with quieter engines. Our policy of noise-related airport charges ensures that those airlines that operate quieter equipment enjoy substantial financial benefits. We have further optimized this incentive system within the scope of our 10- point program for airport expansion. The 10- point program is also the basis for specific passive noise abatement activities.
